About the authorKoichi Yumoto (b.1950) : Collector and researcher of yokai art. Former curatorial director of the Kawasaki City Museum. about the YUMOTO Koichi CollectionThe largest personal collection of yokai art in Japan: around 3,000 works which range from the Edo period to the present day. These include painting, woodbock prints, scrolls, ceramics, kimonos, wooden sculptures, magazines, children's toys, board games, and more. The collection will be housed in the new Yokai Museum (tentative name) in Miyoshi city, Hiroshima Prefecture, which is planned to open to the public by April 2019.

Excellent book in general, This is a beautiful book showing part of a 3000 piece collection of art specifically focusing on Yokai. It will be good for both the Yokai enthusiast and the collector of great coffee table books. Book has both Japanese and English descriptions of each piece of art. someone with a passing interest in supernatural art in general may also find this book a colorful addition to their collection. There is excellent variety in Yokai Wonderland including but not limited to scrolls and woodblock prints, wooden figurines and ornate kimono even a page on hair pins and knives. Last section of the book is a special one of a kind short book. The "Book of Faces" made me quite happy with its beautiful and charmingly strange collection of characters with (you guessed it) interesting faces doing a variety of Japanese things and living life in a very colorful section of the book that essentially functions as a comic with no text. I truly love this addition as I have seen nothing like it even after 15 years as a Japan enthusiast and in particular an Edo period art fan. I will be buying the first one with absolute certainty. You will not get a break down of each Yokai and its story (but) the author does explain what is in each image. I notice something new every time I open it. Easy 5 stars for me and I will recommend it to anyone else I happen to come across.
